Discovering the town Visitors feel always attracted by the show advertisements, the notices advertising art exhibitions in the three youth and culture centres (Sahloul, Sidi Ben Aissa and Ali douaji) book exhibitions, festivals all the year round. One should have a look at the paintings of “Salem Bourkhis” decorating the small garden of the municipality, the artist offers through his work a free visit to the historical and cultural wealth of Hammam-Sousse. Brushes and ideas combined with the artistic know-how of “Ridha Dahmane” with drawings simplifying the memories of the town, its customs , its activities , its legends , a work that makes the wall of the Cultural Centre Ali Douaji more beautiful. With the help of “a map” of Hammam-Sousse, (made by junior chamber of Hammam Sousse) it is very easy to walk around the streets of the town, and discover the traditional gate of the town called "Bab El Khoukha" It is very common to walk past women wearing the traditional dress “Takhlila” and who use the "Charia" which is a kind of "back bag" often used to put the purchases from “Souk Essebt”, the weekly open market, where citizens from Hammam-Sousse and from other neighbouring regions meet.
It is interesting to visit “El-Ksar mosque”, built in the oldest district of Hammam-Sousse “Errahba”, a Chef-d'Oeuvre of modern architecture decorated by impressing mosaics, its importance is in its minaret one of the oldest buildings of the town.
One should also visit “Sidi El Gharbi Marabout” at 200 metres from El Ksar and have a bath with the well's water of the saint, or in other Turkish baths among the 10 existing in the town, before going to the south of the town to visit “Sidi Sahloul”, a very ancient building, built before Hammam-Sousse, an ideal place to discover folklore music and dance during one circumcision ceremony, the amazing aspects of El Hammam traditions, it's like “the panoramic landscape” of the city of “Port-Kantaoui” seen from the small hill of the saint “Marabout of Sidi Kantaoui” or from the park of "Montazah El Kantaoui".
To the north east of the town, far from the buildings, the roads and the beach, for lovers of quietness and walks through “fields”, along pathways, the visitor finds facing him a number of green patches of fields, small fields planted with olive trees, and he discovers men attached to their fertile farms (in this world of silence the only noise one can hear is that of the water pumps of the wells). You may be invited by a peasant to have a ride on his horse or donkey, or to taste a country dish : potatoes grilled on wood fire, with "Tabouna" bread dipped in olive oil and harissa (a sauce made of red peppers, mixed with olive oil) or a dish of "Chakchouka", a kind of country stew, served sometimes with a poached egg. All along the year it is pleasant to walk along “El Menchia beach” on the gold sand of the Mediterranean while listening to the eternal songs of the waves, to look at the birds flying over the place, to meet the fishermen on the rocky platform of the dyke of “Port Kantaoui”, to breathe the saline air while watching the sunset or the moon that enlightens the night across an impressive panoramic setting, a walk along the platform of Port Kantaoui is preferable before having a meal in one of the restaurants of the port.
