Commercial rôle

All industrial development is accompanied with a growth of the tertiary sector, to meet the needs of an urban market with a high population density. The wholesale market has been aggrandised as well as the retail sale market to have the capacity to receive varied agricultural products. The number of small tradesmen settled on their own account has increased. One no longer need to go to Sousse as they used to do in the past to do their daily purchases.

Another important commercial place is "Errahba" situated at the heart of the Medina where the merchants shout to sell. It is a very busy place especially during the month of Ramadan (the fasting month), a few hours before the break of fasting.

The number of banks has also increased to meet the needs of their clients eager to invest or to attract new customers. The trades of furniture , construction materials or spare parts are flourishing. They are situated along the road on the way to Tunis. It is also there that you find the head offices of the local administration whose purpose is to satisfy the needs of the citizens and to facilitate the tasks of the investors.

The town has also a weekly market, "Souk Essebt" (Saturday Market), which offers all kinds of products and attracts a big crowd creating a joyful atmosphere in the place.
